For example, a student can write a paper, turn it in on CANVAS, and then receive written and/or verbal feedback from the teacher online. Through CANVAS, educational resources are posted and teachers can give timely and informative feedback to students. This program is an important building block for our 1:M Digital Initiative because an LMS provides a centralized, consistent virtual learning space through which parents, students, and teachers can work. An important investment to this end is the implementation of CANVAS, our Learning Management System (LMS). Middle School students have access to Mac devices during the school day. Families pay a $50 annual fee per 9-12 grade student as a form of insurance for each 1:M device. This initiative enhances student learning by creating a personalized, student-centered learning environment in which every student in grades 9-12 receives a MacBook Air laptop to use in school and at home. This program began in the 2014-2015 school year after researching, testing multiple devices in the classroom, evaluating how MCS teachers use technology, consulting with other schools who have implemented 1:1 initiatives, and keeping fiscal responsibility at the forefront.
